[Test Note] Check Empire 2000E/III on my setup
Yamaha MC-7
The Yamaha MC-7 belongs to the brand's line of low output MC cartridges. Its 0.3 mV output requires a dedicated MC phono input or a step up transformer. The elliptical stylus tracks from 1.2 to 1.8 g with 1.5 g nominal. The stylus is integrated, so a worn diamond goes out for retipping.
The Yamaha MC-7 favors a coherent, well-rounded presentation over any single exaggerated trait. Imaging and vocal naturalness lead its character, giving a stable soundstage with organic rather than etched voices, while detail and dynamics stay competent without aggression. The elliptical tip on an aluminum tubular cantilever keeps tracking composed on busier passages for jazz, vocal and acoustic material. The stylus is integrated, so worn units require a retip.
