Victor MD-1004

The Victor MD-1004 carries the spirit of the early Japanese cartridge era. This MM design with a conical stylus works into a standard MM phono input. Its heavy 3.0 to 4.0 g tracking force suits the tonearms of the period. The replaceable stylus is the DT-16, and Phono Culture lists 2 compatible replacement styli.

Additional Info

The Victor MD-1004, essentially a rebadged Audio-Technica AT-6, is a forgiving, warm MM built around a conical stylus. Vocals come through natural and full-bodied, bass carries real weight, and dynamics stay lively without turning harsh, favoring a relaxed musical presentation over forensic analysis. Modest imaging and channel separation point it toward rock, jazz vocals and pop rather than dense orchestral works. The stylus is user-replaceable, and a fresh tip revives it fully.
