Sumiko Starling
The Sumiko Starling belongs to the brand's bird series at the high end. Its low 0.5 mV output requires a dedicated MC phono input or a step up transformer. The MicroRidge stylus tracks from 1.8 to 2.2 g with 2.0 g nominal. The stylus is integrated, so a worn diamond calls for professional retipping.

The Sumiko Starling is precise and airy. Its boron cantilever and MicroRidge tip resolve fine inner detail while holding a wide, stable stage, dynamics stay lively and controlled, and bass keeps taut rather than plush. Vocals read natural with a slightly analytical cast that rewards a well-matched arm and phono stage on classical, jazz and acoustic material. The stylus is integrated, so wear leads to a retip.
