Pioneer PC-K85

The Pioneer PC-K85 is a moving magnet cartridge with a conical stylus profile aimed at everyday record listening. Its output of 3.5 mV suits the standard MM input of any phono stage without extra gain. Recommended tracking force runs from 2.0 to 3.0 g with a nominal setting of 2.5 g. The replaceable stylus assembly carries the designation PN-K85, and Phono Culture lists three compatible replacement styli for this model.

Additional Info

The Pioneer PC-K85 leans toward a smooth, forgiving presentation rather than forensic detail. Its conical tip and balanced, modest imaging and dynamics add up to a relaxed midrange with natural vocals instead of a razor-sharp soundstage. That suits casual listening, older pressings and budget systems where tracking ease matters more than resolution. The stylus is replaceable, so the cartridge is easy to live with.
