[Test Note] Check Empire 2000E/III on my setup
Pickering XEV 3001
The Pickering XEV 3001 is a moving magnet cartridge built around the replaceable D3001E stylus with an elliptical profile. Its 4.7 mV output suits any standard MM phono input, so no step-up device is needed. The specified tracking force runs from 0.75 to 1.5 g, matching its upper mid-range positioning. Phono Culture lists three compatible replacement styli for this model.
The Pickering XEV 3001 offers smooth, forgiving sound with a natural midrange focus. Vocals come through warm and believable, imaging stays stable and well-placed, and the elliptical tip keeps tracking relaxed rather than razor-etched. Bass holds reasonably tight without dominating, easy to live with across varied recordings and gear. The stylus is replaceable but genuinely rare, so securing spares while they surface is wise.
