Ortofon VMS 30 MKII
The Ortofon VMS 30 MKII uses the Danish maker's VMS generator in the audiophile class. Its 5 mV output suits any standard MM phono input. The Fine Line stylus rides the groove at a light 1.0 to 1.6 g with 1.3 g nominal. The replaceable stylus is the D-30 Mk II, and Phono Culture lists 3 compatible replacement styli.
The Ortofon VMS 30 MKII offers refined, articulate presentation with natural vocal timbre and precise stereo placement. Its nude Fine Line stylus tracks complex passages cleanly, keeping surface noise low and transients controlled without sounding clinical, while bass stays taut rather than heavy. A forgiving nature suits varied pressings across jazz, vocal and classical collections. The stylus is user-replaceable, sold as the D-30 Mk II insert.
