The Highphonic MC-A3 holds the upper mid range spot in this Japanese low output MC line. Its tiny 0.12 mV output demands a high gain MC phono input or a step up transformer. The hyperelliptical stylus tracks from 0.8 to 1.2 g with 1.0 g nominal. The stylus is integrated, so a worn diamond means a retip.

The Highphonic MC-A3 offers a precise, richly detailed presentation with a wide, stable soundstage and low background noise, letting vocals sit natural and forward without harshness. Bass stays tight rather than heavy and dynamics react quickly on transients, an articulate, slightly analytical character for acoustic, jazz and vocal records on resolving systems. The aluminum cantilever carries an integrated stylus, so retipping is the only cure for wear.
