Denon DL-S1
The Denon DL-S1 crowns the maker's MC lineup at the high end. Its ultra low 0.15 mV output demands a high gain MC phono input or a step up transformer. The elliptical stylus rides the groove at a light 1.1 to 1.5 g with 1.3 g nominal. The stylus is integrated, so a worn diamond means a retip.
The Denon DL-S1 is a refined, precise MC with a natural, effortless presentation. Strong imaging and dynamics create a wide, well-layered soundstage, while high detail retrieval stays smooth rather than clinical, vocals organic and bass tight without bloat. The elliptical stylus tracks complex passages confidently for acoustic, jazz and vocal records on revealing systems. The stylus is integrated, so only a retip cures wear.
