Audio-Technica OC9XML

The Audio-Technica OC9XML continues the long running OC9 series at the high end. Its low 0.4 mV output calls for a dedicated MC phono input or a step up transformer. The MicroLine stylus traces the groove at 1.8 to 2.2 g with 2.0 g nominal. The stylus is integrated, so restoring a worn diamond means a retip.

The Audio-Technica OC9XML is precise and revealing, with an airy, well-separated soundstage and taut control through complex passages. Its boron cantilever with a MicroLine tip pulls fine inner-groove detail without turning edgy, so vocals stay natural and bass stays firm rather than plush. Resolving systems with acoustic, jazz and classical material reward it most. The stylus is integrated, and a worn diamond means a retip.
